Kaiten-zushi, or conveyor belt sushi, is so cool. It’s small colored plates with different options to pick from that go around the seating areas on a conveyor belt. You pick your plate off the conveyor belt and stack your plates when your done and are charged based on the different colors and number of plates. It gives you a great opportunity to try lots of different things without committing to entire rolls if you don’t know that you like them or not. We got to the restaurant and there was quite the line outside of the place that was located in a strip of stores. I went in and put our name on a list that was left standing alone on a pedestal in the front of the restaurant. I assumed they would call our name when it was our turn. The restaurant was very small and I was slightly concerned we would make it in as it was already 6:30 pm. The place closed at 9:00 pm but I didn’t know how long it would take. We sat outside for a while and it was a nice night, thankfully. As we watched the large groups go in and take up majority of the restaurant, we continued our hope that we’d make it in. As we waited, we took a look at the menus that were posted in the back of the sushi prep area.

Finally around 8:00 pm we were seated at a table and the conveyor belt rotated by us as we sat there, but I was dwindling in options quickly.

We ordered a few appetizers to get us started. Since it was so late, our waitress let us know to order through her and we would receive our food. I was pretty disappointed since I wanted to be able to pull from the belt and try all kinds of new stuff vs just relying on photos and making our selections. We ended up ordering from the fairly expansive menu and got to try several different options. All were fantastic. We were slightly rushed as they were still seating people at 8:30 pm, but the belt was shut down and they were locking up. Very crazy experience, but great sushi. I would come back here for sure, but maybe for lunch so we wouldn’t have to wait quite so long.
