North shore is where my sister Kellyne used to live during and after college for a bit. She got to know the local food up there and has her favorites. Ken’s Fresh Fish is one of the places she loves to get fish. We pulled up to this small strip and walked into a very open and empty room. But there were several people coming in and out of this place too. There was a whiteboard set up and it happened to be the very simple menu. We decided to get the Ahi Katsu with coconut shrimp. When asked if we wanted it medium or well done, I stated whatever was recommended, which his reply was medium. This place is cash only, so come prepared. We sat down on the benches in the room and noticed there weren’t any tables inside. I asked where we could eat and the guy laughed and stated that there wasn’t anywhere as there was such limited parking, it was a grab and go kind of place.

While we waited, we saw there were a few options in the cooler that included poke and other fish options. This place is known for the fish and people rave about it. The fresh refrigerator options looked delicious.

From what I could tell the inside kitchen was for breaking down and preparing the fresh fish options. The outside area appeared to be where the cooking took place. Our order took a bit more time due to the shrimp. Once we got our food, we took off to our next destination. Once we parked, we ate our food in the car. First impression, it was pretty. We cut into the fish and I was disappointed to find it was cooked well done. It was a great piece of fish and there was a lot of sauces. Without the sauces, the fish and breading lacked flavor, but was great when all combined. The shrimp was great and very flavorful on it’s own and with the dipping sauces provided.

If you like fresh fish, give this place a try. It is pretty delicious and there are more only a few options, but that generally means they focus on their product and make sure it’s good. I can imagine the poke and other fish options are just as fresh and delicious. I’d come back to try the other options, especially the fresh options that were loaded in the fridge, or even the dried tuna jerky.
